People confuse sight and vision as if they are the same, but the truth is that we only use sight to map our surroundings and actually use vision to map our future.
"My own professional and personal journey has been challenging because I have been a victim of prejudice and discrimination. I am aware that this is common for anyone in any minority group in society but it seems the disabled community have been the forgotten people until now. Since going blind at the age of 19 in 2009, I have not had a single reference point to look to as proof of there being a possible path for me to walk so instead I have chosen to blaze my own trail and become the first award-winning blind film director in Hollywood. I decided to keep my condition secret throughout the making of my first movie and only opened up about my blindness to the press at the world premiere of the film after I had shown everybody that I was capable of delivering. I don’t want future filmmakers to have to deal with what I went through, and this is why I am motivated to champion being a differently abled artist and use my position as a public figure to spark a new wave of differently abled artists." |
"I support Awareness Ties because we have a shared affinity for enabling disabled people and there is extremely strong synergy between many of our shared ambitions. I share the same viewpoint as Awareness Ties when it comes to believing that everybody talented is deserving of opportunities regardless of their stigma. I am inspired by the work that Awareness Ties does around illuminating and seeing stories and giving a voice to individuals that lead by example to destroy the negative stereotype surrounding “disability“. As well as being an entertainer and storyteller, my biggest passion is my mission to create change in society and I believe that my goal is aligned with those of Awareness Ties which is why I will do my upmost to be a supportive ambassador."
