Doing nothing is not an option.
"I cannot change the past nor can I bring back my son, but I am determined to do everything in my power to prevent others from following in his footsteps. Sharing the Scattering CJ documentary can and will spark conversations. Sharing my son with the world can and will save lives. Suicide is a hideous beast, one that leaves behind a devastating path of destruction. I refuse to let the beast win." |
"Awareness Ties provides a platform for people like me to raise awareness in a much broader way. It's not often that I feel instantly connected to someone I've just met but meeting Allie left me feeling compelled to climb on the Awareness Now train. Her passion makes me want to continue the hard work needed to advocate for suicide prevention. Doing so under the supportive Awareness Ties umbrella guarantees that my message will be louder and stronger."
About Hallie
Hallie is a grieving mother on a mission. Following the suicide of her elder son and Air Force recruit CJ Twomey, Hallie set out to make something positive evolve from such horrific tragedy. Hallie used Facebook and the power of social media to send her son on one last journey. What started as a simple request for people to scatter her son’s ashes across the world has since turned into a social phenomenon; one with the ability to save lives offline as well as drawing together a community online that has congregated in solidarity and empathy. Hallie has worked tirelessly to ensure that her son did not die in vain. She talks openly and honestly about the devastation left behind in the wake of a single gunshot and is determined to prevent others from following in her son’s footsteps. In addition to her work raising awareness about mental illness, she is a staunch advocate for organ and tissue donation. Now the mother of an organ donor, she believes that giving the gift of life is simply the only option and anonymously donated her right kidney in late 2014.
Hallie’s younger son Connor lives in Maine with his wife Ella where he works as a welder. Hallie relocated to Florida with her husband John where she continues to share CJ’s story as a way to spark conversations about mental health and remove the stigma associated with suicide. Hallie hopes the documentary, Scattering CJ will amplify her efforts.
