If ever you are in the darkness,
we stand ready to climb into the shadows with you,
as we've been where you are and we will show you the way out.
"Over the years in special operations, I have experienced many things in life. Of all the selections and tragedies and challenges I have gone through I have learned 2 things: 1. After all is said and done, your career will never define who you are, and no sooner than when you leave your time in service will you discover who your true friends really are. 2. If you want to be the best at anything you do in life, you must have these 3 things: Discipline, Time and the Will to Succeed." |
"Awareness Ties is tackling and actively addressing challenges in all communities.
It is not solely about the disabled, veterans, the abused, the hungry, the sick, the poor...
Awareness ties sheds light on all peoples that are experiencing adversity in life, bringing us all closer together." - Steven Nisbet
About Steven
As a U.S. Special Warfare Airman (Pararescueman) I spent 15 years performing as a Technician in Combat Rescue, Combat Medicine, Technical Rescue and Crisis Management. More than 10years of that time was spent as a Team Leader amongst the top 1% of the Nations Military service members. Of that, 6 years was spent as a Technician and Team Leader in the top 1% of the Nation’s Special Operations Forces at the top Tier, working to solve unique problems threatening the United States and its allies.
Towards the end of my career I experienced the loss of a teammate in training, fear of death in combat, the loss of my job, depression, extreme stress and physical injuries. Fortunately I was afforded the opportunity to have access to some of the best Human Performance Coaches, facilities and Psychological Therapists in the DOD. Without these specialists I would be in a very different place today and most certainly down a path of destruction.
As I transition into the civilian world, I plan to bring the same opportunities I had available to me to a demographic that has been under appreciated and over worked. This calling could not be ignored, thus Shields and Stripes was formed. A non-profit organization servicing our nations heroes by applying principles for fitness, health and wellness in conjunction with Mental/Behavioral Health treatment strategies. Our heroes deserve the BEST and nothing less, that is what Shields and Stripes will provide.
